Mysuru: Arasu Prathime Prathishtapana Samiti ( Committee for Installation of Urs Statue) has urged the district administration to take measures to install the statue of late former chief minister D Devaraj Urs in the city.

In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Rohini V Sindhuri, the committee has opined that while there are statues of great personalities like Dr B R Ambedkar, Kuvempu, Mahatma Gandhi, Babu Jagjivan Ram, Saint Kanakadasa and Basavanna in the city, there is no statue of Urs yet.

Urs was the voice of downtrodden who spearheaded the cause of backward classes. However there is no fitting tribute to such a great personality.

Hence measures should be taken to build a statue, urged a delegation of activists led by writer Prof K S Bhagwan, including president of the committee Zakir Hussain, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Mysuru M Chandrashekar and Dairy Venkatesh secretary of Mysuru District Congress Committee.
