Mysuru: Chaos and confusion prevailed for sometime as pro-Hindu activists assaulted an Urdu daily correspondent at Hindu Jagarana Vedike protest venue on Thursday.

The Vedike had organised a mega demonstration at Mysore Palace North gate in protest against the demolition of temples, especially Adishakti Mahadevamma temple at Huchgani village in Nanjangud taluk recently.

Mohammed Safdar Kaiser chief editor of The Daily Kausar was recording the speech of Vedike general secretary Jagadish Karanth when a group of right-wing activists took objection for video recording the event. They demanded Kaiser to delete the recording and manhandled him.

Even as the police rushed to his rescue, the enraged activists made repeated bids to hit him with the stick of saffron flags. After much difficulty, police succeeded in keeping Kaiser in a room attached to Palace compound to ensure his safety and cleared the mob.

DCP (Law and order) Pradeep Gunti interacted with media persons and took details of Kaiser.

Kaiser has lodged a complaint at Devaraja police station.

Meanwhile, Mysore District Journalist Association (MDJA) President S T Ravikumar has written to the police commissioner demanding action against assailants at the Hindu Jagarana Vedike programme and more security for Journalists during such religious events.

The Association has also condemned the incident of assault on suspicion, by Vedike activists.
