Prestigious Gaj Gourav honour for Bandipur Tiger Reserve veterinarian Dr Mirza Vaseem

Mysuru: Dr Mirza Vaseem, veterinarian at Bandipur National Tiger Reserve has been nominated for the prestigious Gaj Gourav Award in recognition of his outstanding service to wildlife conservation.

The award is presented by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Project Tiger and Elephant Division on the occasion of World Elephant Day to honour frontline workers in wildlife conservation.

Dr Vaseem, 34, is a native of Mysuru. He graduated in BVSc, Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University and did his post-graduation, MVSc in Wildlife Medicine from Massey University, New Zealand. He also has a certification in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from Canada. Besides, he holds a North American Veterinary License granted by the Canadian Veterinary Organisation.

Gaj Gaurav award recognises the good practices adopted by captive elephant owners and outstanding works done by field officers, frontline staff and private custodians towards elephant conservation.

The selection committee constituted by the Ministry, has selected Dr Mirza Vaseem. The award will be presented on August 12, at Angul, Mahanadi Elephant Reserve in Odisha.
