Mysuru: T Balachandra who recently retired as the director of Bandipur Tiger Reserve has decided to work for the cause of ecology. Balachandra retired as the Conservator of Forest on October 31.
Speaking to Mysoorunews.com Balachandra lay bare his plans as he is keen on dedicating his time for the cause of environment, to be precise environmental advocacy.
Balachandra who served his last tenure at Bandipur for over one-and-a-half years, after taking charge in July 2019, explained that “Bandipur tiger reserve forest is not a property of any individual. It’s a precious asset of the Forest department and nature lovers”.
“The forest fire and poaching were all brought under control due to the collective efforts. Senior officers and RFOs play a key role in conservation. I am happy about the three decade long bond with the nature”, said Balachandra who served the department in various capacities for 30 years.
Bandipur National Tiger Reserve Forest is the soul of South Karnataka. It is popular as the best tiger habitat, but came under threat due to repeated forest fire and poaching. After a major fire broke out in 2017, damaging the vast expanse of forest, Balachandra strove hard towards its protection and conservation. As a result, posching came down to a nought, making the forest a safe home for the big cats.
Balachandra who has shifted to Mysuru is also mulling over giving a touch of literature to his vast experience in the woods and publish a book. There will be a chapter on Bandipur too, said Balachandra with a tinge of pride.
