Post rainfall, veggie rates towards sky

Mysuru: The recent rains has shot up the prices of vegetables in the city. If one takes a visit to the vegetable market on M G Road, they will surely feel the pinch.

Tomato earlier sold at Rs five per kg has now touched Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg. Jam variety of tomato is hovering between Rs 50 and Rs 60. Beans a must buy for the culinary on a daily basis still stays on the top at Rs 90 per kg. Carrot is sold at Rs 50, Cucumber at Rs 30, Brinjal Rs 40 and so on.

A bunch of coriander leaves is heavy on the pocket. It is sold at Rs 40 per bunch, while the curry leaves is offered at Rs 15 per bunch. The other types of leaves are not less than Rs 10.

A vegetable vendor said ‘ We are also forced to invest more due to the spike in the prices of vegetables in the wholesale market. The recent rains accompanied by hailstones has been affecting the cultivation of vegetables. Lesser the supply, more the price is the norm’.
