2 min read

Bengaluru: Sunil Kanugolu, the man who strategized Congress party campaigns that helped the party win with a thumping majority in the Karnataka Assembly elections, has now been appointed adviser to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. An order is likely to be released soon in this regard.

A low-key personality, Kanugolu shot to limelight after the Congress won the Assembly election and with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Kanugol has been appointed CM’s adviser as the party hopes to recreate the magic in 2024 LS polls, too.

While not much is known in public about Kanugol as he does not have a social media presence, he is credited with designing some of the key and effective campaigns like ’40 per cent’ and ‘PayCM’ that helped in toppling the BJP government in the State.

It is reported that Kanugolu is the native of Ballari but lived most of his life in Chennai. A B E graduate, Kanugolu had earlier was part of another poll strategist Prashant Kishore’s team who played a major role in BJP’s win in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. But, Kanugolu charted his own path setting up a firm Mindshare Analytics that also worked for Congress in the recent elections. Kanugolu is also credited with helping improving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin’s image with his ‘Namakku Naame’ campaign during the Assembly polls there in 2016.

Not just in Tamil Nadu, he had also worked for BJP and helped the party win in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

He is said to have a team of 300 who designed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ covering 4,000 km from north to south of India that played a keyrole in ‘reviving’ the Congress party’s image.
