Poll code violation! Home minister’s convoy driver booked, cops suspended

Mandya: By- election from K R Pet Assembly Constituency is a week away on December 5 and the district administration is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure free and fair elections.

Following media reports, the driver of a vehicle in the convoy of home minister is also not spared from action, as a case has been booked against him at Maddur police station. He is facing the charge of not stopping the vehicle for inspection by the officials deputed on duty, to ensure smooth compliance of model code of conduct in place. The vehicle was in convoy of home minister during his visit to the district on November 19.

Two police constables are also suspended for dereliction of duty. A charge sheet has been submitted against the officials of static surveillance team (SST) on the similar charges. They are also subjected to departmental enquiry.

The action has been taken complying with Representation of People’s Act 174 and under rule 11 of Karnataka Civil Sevices (KCS), 1957.

Assistant Commissioners of Mandya and Pandavapura sub- divisions have been appointed as nodal officers to implement model code of conduct, according  to Deputy Commissioner Dr M V Venkatesh also the district electoral officer.
