‘POCSO case against seer: Cops turn away counsellors accompanying victims’

1 min read

Mysuru: Stanley and Parashu of Odanadi Seva Samsthe in the city that provided shelter to the two victims of alleged sexual harassment on Sunday alleged that “the police investigating into the case of sexual harassment against Murugha Mutt seer in Chitradurga sent back the counsellors accompanying the victims”.

It may be mentioned that, acting on the statement of the victims, a case of sexual harassment had been booked under POCSO Act 2012 against Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana the head pontiff of the Mutt and four others at Nazarbad police station in Mysuru on Friday, that stands transferred to Chitradurga now.

Stanley and Parashu alleged that “the investigation officer (IO) in the case who is collecting the statement of the victims at SP office, didn’t allow our counsellors. They were turned away at the insistence of Mutt authorities”.

This is a clear violation of rules and regulations of Child Welfare Committee. After the case was shifted, the investigation officers didn’t allow the counsellors to stay with victim children.

The investigation officer didn’t interact with the victims and collect section164 statement, Parashuram claimed.

When the victims were brought to our organisation those persons who accompanied them also brought some documents, but we think victims are the main evidence in the case, Parashuram added.
