PM Modi unveils Adi Shankaracharya’s statue! A historical moment to be mentioned in records, says district minister S T Somashekar

Mysuru: Cooperation and district incharge minister S T Somashekar on Friday watched live the inauguration of various development works including the statue of Adi Shankaracharya at Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.

A special arrangements had been made to screen live the PM’s event, on the premises of Srikanteshwara Swamy temple in Nanjangud, known as “Dakshina Kashi” and temple town.

Somashekar who described the moment as historical that deserves to be mentioned in records, said “barring the temple, most of Kedarnath had been destroyed in disastrous floods in 2013. The grave of eighth century saint Shankaracharya had also been destroyed in floods. With the restoration of the grave, a fitting tribute is paid to the saint who restored Hindu religion.”

Kedarnath is one of the chardhams that attracts lakhs of devotees every year, said Somashekar. Earlier, the minister also offered puja to the cows at the temple
