Mysuru: Suttur seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji described ‘Udupi Pejawar Mutt Seer Sri Vishwesha Teerth and centenarian seer of Tumakuru late Siddaganga Mutt late Dr Shivakumar Swamiji were like two eyes of the society”.

In his condolence message to media at Suttur mutt premises in the city, Deshikendra Swamiji said “Both the religious heads have left behind a rich legacy that should be followed by the junior pontiffs”.
Lauding Vishwesha Teerth seer for his never say die attitude as he was always active throughout his life, Deshikendra Swamiji said “Though belonging to madhwa tradition, he did not hesitate to make repeated attempts to embrace dalits and check untouchability. Though he had to earn the wrath of conservative minded society, he practiced what he believed in”.
It was the same zeal that took him to dalits dominated localities in Mysuru when he was on his chaturmasa visit. Despite his Ill health, the seer had visited dalits lanes only to keep his promise. The seer had also evinced interest to give deeksha to them, breaking away from the tradition of Madhwa custom, such was his commitment.
Similarly, the seer was a strong votary of Sri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Though the temple did not become a reality in his life time, the Supreme Court ruling in favour of building the temple had brought satisfaction to him, said Deshikendra Swamiji.
Recalling the association of Suttur mutt and the late seer, Deshikendra Swamiji said “Vishwesha Teerth was in a cordial relationship with the mutt since the time of previous pontiff Rajendra Swamiji”.
Deshikendra Swamiji will also be leaving for Bengaluru to pay his last respects to the mortal remains of the seer that will be kept at National College Grounds to enable devotees to pay their tribute.
