Pay support price fixed by government to cane growers without delay: DC to factory managements

1 min read

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra has directed sugar cane factory managements not to show laxity in paying government fixed support price to cane farmers.

Holding a meeting of cane factory managements and farmers’ leaders to discuss issues farmers facing, here on Monday, the deputy commissioner said that the government has hiked the support price to Rs 150 per tonne with regard to sugar cane and the onus is on the factory managements to ensure the farmers are paid, within 14 days after purchase of cane. Farmers are suffering as they are not getting good price for their produce and the factory managements must not delay in providing them full support price, fixed by the government.

He suggested the factory management to have an agreement with labourers to harvest the produce and not to cause inconvenience to farmers. Many farmers complained about losses incurred during harvesting the produce through labourers hired by factory management. At this, the deputy commissioner said that he will submit state commission report suggesting direct involvement of factory managements to harvest the produce to prevent losses to farmers.

Farmers had complained to the DC about lack of labourers to harvest the produce. They also raised issues on not getting support price by the managements within 14 days after purchase of cane.

Agriculture Department joint director Shivakumar, Food and Civil Supplies Department Deputy Director Kumuda and farmers’ leaders were present at the meeting.
