Pawn brokers close shops against debt relief Act

Mysuru: Pawn brokers at K R Nagar taluk in the district have staged a protest on August 23.

The pawn brokers under the leadership of K R Nagar taluk Pawnbrokers Association President C Madanlal staged a symbolic protest in front of the tahsildar’s office and demanded the officers not to implement debt relief Act 2019. They had closed shops for a day as a mark of protest.

A writ has been filed against the Act of the government in the high court. The Act should not be implemented till the court passes its order, the association members demanded the tahsildar Tahsildar M Manjula.

The Act will push most of the registered pawn brokers into streets. It is appropriate to take action against those who collect higher rate of interest on the loan, but those pawn brokers who are conducting business according to the law, helping farmers and poor, should not be victimised.

Honorary president of the association B R Solanki, vice- president Balaraj, pawn brokers H C Shantharaj, H C Lokeshwar, G N Bhadrappa, H V Kumar, Manjunath, Prakash, Arun, Rathan and Vikas and Councillor Prakash were present during the protest.
