Part of wall collapses near KRS dam! Cauvery Neeravari Nigam officials deny any threat

Mysuru: Even as the heat over alleged illegal mining posing threat to KRS dam remains to die, a part of the wall beneath the stairs connecting Brindavan Garden to the area where the idol of Goddess Cauvery is installed near the dam collapsed, triggering tension.
In view of safety, entry of public and tourists to the area near the stairs had been prohibited a few years ago.
It is suspected that the stones may have collapsed due to the incessant rains in the last few days.
As gravel was used in construction works those days, it may have turned weak in the recent years.
Following the incident, Srirangpatna MLA Ravindra Srikantaiah visited the spot along with Cauvery Niravari Nigam Superintending Engineer Vijay Kumar.
They denied any threat to the safety of the dam, as the part of the stairs which collapsed is not connected to the core part of the dam.
It may be recalled that Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh had raised concerns over the safety of the dam.
She had alleged mining in the radius of the dam posing threat to reservoir and also inspected few areas in Srirangapatna and Beby Betta in Pandavapura taluk where stone quarries function.
Apart from inspecting the dam, she had also met newly appointed Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot in this regard.
