Panel formed to declare Tulu as State’s second official language

Bengaluru: The State government is contemplating to declare Tulu as the second official language of the State. In this backdrop, the government has formed a committee headed by Dr Mohan Alva, founder of Alva’s Education Foundation and Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Moodbidri to study, research and make a recommendation by a week, said Kannada and Culture Minister V Sunil Kumar.

Tweeting the same, Karkala MLA said it has been a long-pending demand of Tuluvaites to include Tulu language into the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The same has been presented before the Union government by the MPs too. Tulu is widely spoken in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi coastal districts.

Hence, the government has formed a panel to look into all the aspects to declare the language as the second Official language of the State. The panel will have a week’s time to submit the report.
