Pakistani national arrested in Mysuru on terrorism charges, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

DG and IGP Praveen Sood was the Commissioner of Mysuru city police when the arrests were made in the case on October 26, 2006. Sood had appeared before the court and gave his statement on January 27, 2021.

Mysuru: Nearly 15 years after the sensational incident, when two Pakistani nationals were arrested on the charges of terrorism in the city, one of the prime accused has been convicted on a charge.

According to a release from police Commissioner’s office, Fahad alias Naduthani alias Muhammed Koya, aged 24 at the time of arrest, a native of Karachi in Pakistan, is the convict. He was staying in Rajiv Nagar in the city then.

He has been sentenced to 10 years  imprisonment and imposed Rs 10,000 fine after he was found guilty under IPC section 121 (a) for conspiracy against the country and separate sentence and fine under different IPC sections that will run concurrently.

The principal district and sessions court judge, Bengaluru awarded the sentence on April 22.

The second accused in the case Ali Hussain is an undertrial in Jammu and Kashmir jail. He is a native of Hazara division, Pakistan.

The third accused in the case died during the course of trial while the fourth accused to eighth accused were sentenced to three years of jail earlier and also released.

The remaining accused- ninth accused to 20 are all Jammu and Kashmir nationals who are absconding and a charge sheet in this regard is already submitted to the court.

On the night of October 26, 2006, Fahad and Ali Hussain were riding a two- wheeler in a suspicious manner on the high-tension wire road near Vijayanagar outer-ring road junction, when the police tried to intercept them. They tried to escape after opening fire from AK- 47 rifle in their possession, the police also opened fire in air and succeeded in arresting them.

Upon investigation, they were learnt to be Pakistani nationals. The police had seized AK-47 rifle, live cartridges, satellite phone and other explosives from them.

Vijayanagar police had booked them under various IPC sections including attempt to murder.
