Owners of Olympia theatre in Mysuru shared a special bond with actor Dilip Kumar

Mysuru: Legendary Bollywood actor Dililp Kumar who passed away on Wednesday had spent a good time among buffs in the city.

It was only for once and the moment still remains afresh for those who had a rare privilege then to be a close witness.

Ganga Jamuna” the film starring Dilip Kumar and his brother Nasir Khan was screened at Olympia talkies near Makkaji Chowka in the heart of the city.

The year was 1961 and Dilip Kumar who had already attained cult status among his fans visited Olympia during the screening of the movie.

Dilip Kumar had written the story and produced the film, which went on to become a big hit. It was also the only film he had produced in his five decades career in Bollywood.

Speaking to Mysoorunews.com M V Ajit the owner of Olympia said ” Dilip Kumar came to see the response for Ganga Jamuna and enjoyed a bit of the movie along with the audience.”

The photo of the visit adorned the office for several years, till it went missing. 

Ajit’s son Sanath Kumar added “Dilip Kumar not just visited the theatre, but also our house both in Mysuru and Bengaluru. He had hosted a dinner party and my father had attended the party.”

Not just Ganga Jamuna, we had also screened- Aadmi and Kohinoor among several other movies of Dilip Kumar in our theatres like Shamilar ( now defunct) and Lido also, he recalled.

Dilip Kumar frequently visited his close associate’s house near Sujatha Hotel and even stayed there several times, Sanath Kumar added.
