Mysuru: True to the theme ‘Simple, traditional and virtual’ the recently concluded Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara has reached lakhs of people virtually.

Addressing media persons to thank the people and officials for successful 411th Dasara, Cooperation and District incharge Minister S T Somashekar informed that ” On Jamboo Savari day alone, 1.85 lakh people have watched the procession live on official Facebook link, followed by 32,500 on YouTube and 5300 on Dasara website. Besides, starting from the inauguration of Navaratri till Jamboo Savari, 5.12 lakh people have watched the events on Facebook, 49,500 on YouTube and 23,150 on website.”

Continuing, the minister said “we were witness to several specialities this time as the utsava murthy of Goddess Chamundeshwari was brought in a procession along with cultur1al troupes from Chamundi Hill to Palace.”

Unlike previous year, when cultural programmes were restricted to Palace stage, arrangements were also made at Kalamandira and Nanjangud too. As many as 100 local troupes were provided a stage to perform.

Howdah elephant Abhimanyu successfully did his duty for the consecutive second year. The credit should go to mahouts, kavadis and forest officials, who did their job to perfection.

To encourage tourism industry, more importance is given to illumination of Mysuru city. The illuminated area includes 105 km of roads, 96 circles and 49 different designs. In all about 400 personnel including 60 engineers, contractors, electric staff and others have worked behind this. It has turned into one of the major attractions among tourists and Mysureans alike.

The recent decision of the chief minister to extend the illumination for nine more days is in sync with the suggestion of former chief minister S M Krishna who had advised to develop tourism hub, during his inaugural address at Navaratri atop Chamundi Hill.

Krishna had also suggested on development of Film City in Mysuru and also runway at Mysuru Airport. I have discussed about these matters with the chief minister and a meeting will be convened shortly, said Somashekar.

In commemoration of erstwhile Maharaja of Mysuru Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, an award instituted in the name of the Maharaja was also conferred on 12 eminent personalities at Palace. Adhichunchanagiri mutt seer Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji conferred the award. It has been written to the chief minister to distribute the award from State Government from next year.

The chief minister had released Rs six crore towards Dasara expenditure this year. Of the total funds, Rs 50 lakh each was sanctioned for Dasara at Chamarajanagar and Srirangapatna and Rs 20 lakh for Arkalgud Dasara. Like previous year, the details related to expenditure will be released soon, said Somashekar.
