Operation demolition! 250 shops pulled down at Chamundi Hill

1 min read

Mysuru: After much dilly-dallying 250 unauthorised shops at Chamundi Hill were demolished on September 12.

A team of officials led by Tahsildar T Ramesh Babu supervised the operation with five earth moving vehicles used to raze the shops that had been built encroaching upon the road and government land leading to the temple.

A few days ago, when the taluk officials were preparing to remove the shops, local MLA G T Devegowda had restrained them, considering the plea of road side shopkeepers to give them some time.

Recently, the worried shopkeepers also met former chief minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru, asking him to direct the district administration to stop them. However, there was no bearing on the authorities.

With no option left, the traders had also vacated the shops on the eve of the drive. The city police had provided elaborate security cover to prevent any untoward incidents.
