One TMC water to flow from Kabini dam to 52 lakes: Somashekar

Mysuru: Cooperation and district incharge Minister S T Somashekar has instructed to release water to lakes in Kabini dam area. One TMC feet of water will be released to 52 lakes for 15 days to enable farming activities.

Chairing Kabini Reservoir Irrigation Advisory Committee meeting Somashekar discussed with the elected representatives of Kabini irrigation area and officers.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar the Chamarajanagar district incharge minister had also requested for convening the meeting at the earliest, as it was necessity to take the water till the last length of the canals. Presently, there is 14.5 TMC feet of water in the dam and five TMC of water will be used for irrigation, said Somashekar.
The officials have been instructed to take up Canal repair works and desilting at the earliest. Before July end, Kabini water should reach even the last lake through canals. If not, the MLA has warned of staging protest.
After a year long efforts, Nanjangud MLA Harshavardhan has managed to get Rs 80 Crore sanctioned to take up irrigation works, said Somashekar.
Chamarajanagar district Minister S Suresh Kumar, MP Pratap Simha, DC Dr Bagadi Gautham, Chamarajanagar DC MR Ravi, MLAs N Mahesh, Harshavardhan, Anil Chikkamadu and C Ashwin Kumar and officers were present.
