The practice of carrying sand bags began on Monday, with howdah carrier Abhimanyu. While Abhimanyu carried 200-kg sand bags, Dhananjaya carried the sand bags weighing about 400 kg.
Dhananjaya is 43-year-old male elephant from Dubare elephant camp. His weight is about 4050 kg and height about 2.92 metres. The mahout is Bhaskar J C and Kavadi Mani J A.
Dhananjaya was captured in 2013 at Yasalur in Hassan district. Now, he is a part of elephant and tiger operation and is regularly participating in Dasara since three years.
All the eight elephants participated in the morning walk. The pachyderms are healthy and have adjusted to the walk, following the instructions of mahouts and Kavadis.
