On Narendra Modi’s 70th birthday, BJP workers give new look to 170-year-old temple

Mysuru: Over 170 years old Kadu Basaveshwara Temple near Columbia Asia Hospital on Mysuru- Bengaluru road got a new look on Thursday.

BJP workers led by their city unit president T S Srivatsa painted the temple and removed the weeds and shrubs around the temple to mark the 70th birthday celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the legend, the temple with the idol of Basava ( bull) is believed to be built around 1849 AD during the princely rule. Hero stones are also found on the premises.

The BJP backward classes Morcha had arranged the cleaning activities as part of Swachh Bharat concept of the central government.

City president Srivatsa said “The party has planned several initiatives in all the 65 wards of the city Corporation. Under the banner of ‘ Seva Hi Sanghatane’ year long activities are planned by the various morchas of the party. Raita Morcha will be planting saplings towards conservation of environment, performing go puja for the conservation of cattle and distributing cattle feed. While other morchas like backward classes Morcha, Mahila Morcha, SC/ ST Morcha and Minority Morcha have organised programmes under the concept of ‘Swachh Bharat, Shresht Bharat’. Yuva Morcha has organised blood donation camps”.

BJP State General Secretary Siddaraju gave a call to the party workers to select one village in each month and take measures to educate the illiterate lot, under Gram Vikas Yojane. As many as 188 castes which come come under backward classes should reap the benefits of various programmes of the centre, he added.

BJP backward classes wing president Jogi Manju said ” 70 saplings were distributed to mark the birthday of the prime minister. Modi also hails from backward classes and and wishing the leader a healthy life puja was offered to the idol of Basava at the temple”.

BJP state minority Morcha general secretary Dr Anil Thomas, BJP city general secretary Giridhar, Morcha general secretary Gopal and Maniratnam, vice- president Bharat, secretary Shivaraj, Rajiv Sneha Balaga convener Kumar, leaders Harish, Jagadish, Swamy Gowda, Anand and Nagaraju, Mandala presidents Nagesh and Rachappaji were present.
