On DFRL’s space food menu: Aloo Paratha, Daal and Chapathi and Vegetable Biryani

Mysuru: Daal and Chapathi, Aloo Paratha, Vegetable biryani and ready to drink tea are some of the dishes on the space foods menu that is being developed by the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) here. Aptly called space food, these were on display at the DFRL Centre here during the Open Day on July 8. And some of the Mysureans were privileged to catch a glimpse of these space foods on display.

India’s Chandrayaan 3 will be launched on July 14 by the ISRO.

Apart from the solid food, the DFRL has also developed liquid based and pastes that are healthy, easy to digest for those on the space. The raw materials like vegetables used for these dishes are absolutely free from chemicals.

The DFRL had also displayed moong daal halwa, Chicken Kati Roll, Chicken pulav, Veg Kati Roll and ready to drink Lemon Juice. These foods are still being experimented at ISRO Capsule three times and not yet finalised as menu, though.


Besides, there were foods that are specially supplied to soldiers in Army, Navy and Air Force were also exhibited. Apart from some the cooking equipment like stove to cook instant food, Anti Freeze container, roti making machines, water pouch, mask that allows to have liquid food were also on display.

Bag specifically designed for storing and packaging food waste, ensuring complete resistance to the harmful effects of microorganisms upon contact.

DFRL Director Dr Anil Dutt Semwal told Mysoorunews.com “DFRL has expertise in developing space foods, for upcoming Gaganyaan mission , DFRL has developed more than 40 different food products. Trails of developed products have been completed successfully. We are ready to supply food products to ISRO , as soon as we receive instructions”.
