On cusp of 50! Journalism department at Manasagangotri to get its own building

Mysuru: There may not be any part of the world where you cannot stumble upon the alumni of the University of Mysore, Mysuru.

VC of University of Mysore Prof G Hemanth Kumar performs the ground breaking ceremony for the new building of department of Mass Communication and Journalism, at Manasagangotri on Monday. Registrar R Shivappa, HoD Dr C K Puttaswamy, Dr Niranjan Vanalli, Sapna Naik and other faculty members are seen.

It’s similar about the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the products of which are all over- from local to global serving in various media houses, PR firms and also the department of information and public relations.

Now, there is a good news for the present, past and future products of the department which is on the cusp of its 50 years in 2021 and is getting an exclusive state of the art building.

Vice-chancellor of University of Mysore Prof G Hemanth Kumar laid a foundation stone for the building of the department near the departments of Chemistry and Anthropology at serene Manasagangotri the PG campus of the century old varsity. An apt gift for the department during its golden jubilee celebration next year. 

According to the blue print of the project, “there will be class rooms, two halls and advanced studio and computer lab along with separate chamber for chairman and staff room”.

Head of the Department Dr C K Puttaswamy told Mysoorunews.com, “the department was started in the University of Mysore nearly 50 years ago. Since then we were sharing basic infrastructure facilities with Humanities department. We had approached the VC for new and separate infrastructure for the department. It is becoming a reality now”.
He also mentioned that “students now require spacious halls, rooms and studio for their studies and the new building will fulfil all the requirements at the prestigious Manasagangothri campus”. 
Next year we are stepping into 50th year celebration of the department. The new building will be a gift for golden jubilee celebration, Puttaswamy said.
Registrar R Shivappa, retired HoD Prof N Usharani, Dr Niranjan Vanalli, Sapna Naik, Mamata and department heads and staff and former faculty members of the department were present.
