OBRATS! MALC to host obstacle course race on January 19

Mysuru: Mysore Amity Ladies Circle 108, a Charitable Trust with the motto of ‘Educate to Enlighten’, in collaboration with RE3 Command Fitness will be organizing OBRATS – an obstacle course race for children on January 19 at Mahajana’s College Ground in the city.

Amity Ladies Circle Media convener Sampada Jain told media, a first-of its kind, niche athletics event is being organized exclusively for children aged between five and 16 years with a registration limit of 250 participants.
 
Explaining about the initiative, Jain said “The race will require participants to overcome 12 hurdles that will test their strength, stamina, flexibility and endurance. We want to encourage children to enjoy outdoor activities and take some time off from their digital worlds. We truly believe physical activities are important for holistic growth”.
 
OBRATS is a charity fundraiser event where the funds collected will be used to build two classrooms in Kyathanahalli Government School, Kyathanahalli Village, H D Kote Taluk. The construction will start soon.
 
In addition to building classrooms, MALC 108 also believes in Go Green initiatives and will be donating 250 saplings to all the participants on race day. We will also be giving free participation to 10 children from Nele Orphanage to enjoy the experience of an obstacle race, She added. 
 
She mentioned that Junior category registration fee is Rs 750 and for the senior category the fee is Rs 850. Safety measures are taken and medical team will be in place.
 
Amity Ladies Circle Chairperson Nidhi Guptha will inaugurate the event. The event will start at 7 AM and concludes before 10 AM. We have given free registrations for 10 students of Hinkal Government School, Jain stated.
 
Obrats Course Race coordinator Abhijith, opined that Obrats is a sporting event that will put to test some of the fundamental physical abilities of a child and at the same time build self-confidence in the participants. The participants are expected to be resilient, focused on task completion and display their willingness to overcome adversity. We can look forward to seeing some really good talented individuals in this uncommon sporting event, he said.
 
The race includes two categories: Junior category in the age group of five to eight years and senior category from nine to 16 years. It will have obstacles like Tyre Wall Climbing, Tarzan Jump, Log Carrying and Monkey Bars to name a few. 
 
Amity Ladies Circle chairperson Rupal Chirag, Kavya Kailash, Pooja Kiran Ranga and Sahana were present.
