Mysuru: In a initiative aimed at resolving student concerns, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has launched the ‘Vidyarthi Nyaya Yatre-2025 ‘, a Student Justice Yatra’ across Karnataka.
The month-long campaign will traverse 25
districts over 30 days, covering more than 3,500 kilometres and engaging with an estimated 2.2 lakh students.
The Yatre has already covered key districts including Bengaluru, Kolar and Chamarajanagar, before reaching Mysuru. Throughout the journey, NSUI has focused on five major sectors of education: medical colleges, engineering colleges, law colleges, degree colleges and agriculture-based colleges.
At a press conference held at the Mysuru District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) on Wednesday, NSUI State General
Secretary Manish G Raj, emphasised the need for direct engagement with students.
He stated that the Yatre would serve as a platform to voice student grievances and propose tangible solutions.
NSUI State General Secretary Anvith Kateel reiterated the importance of creating a supportive academic environment, emphasising the campaign’s tagline: “You Paid for Education, Not Struggles.”
The campaign primarily focuses on academic reforms, timely scholarships, improved hostel facilities, career guidance, skill development, mental health support and student safety.
Additionally, it aims to tackle critical issues such as preventing student suicides and drug abuse, eradicating ragging, strengthening government institutions, restoring student elections, and advocating for the implementation of the Karnataka Student Welfare Bill.
One of the most pressing concerns raised during the Yatre has been the non-availability of scholarships.
Addressing this, NSUI leaders announced that they have taken the initiative to resolve
the issue, ensuring that pending scholarships will be disbursed by the end of the financial year in March 2025.
As part of the Yatre, NSUI will organize interactive student meetings, university visits, and public discussions to ensure comprehensive engagement.
A dedicated helpline will also be launched,
allowing students to report grievances and seek assistance in real time.
NSUI plans to compile student concerns gathered during the Yatra into a detailed report, which will be submitted to the state government for policy action. The initiative also seeks to raise awareness about digital education accessibility and bridge the rural-urban education gap, ensuring equitable
learning opportunities for all students.
NSUI leaders also underscored the Yatra’s commitment to exposing and addressing systemic challenges, including exam paper leaks, ensuring a transparent academic system, and fostering the holistic development of students.
NSUI State co-ordinator Hruthik Ravi, Yashwanth and Mohith were present.
