2 min read

Chitradurga: Close on the heels of a FIR filed against Murugha Mutt Seer Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana under POCSO, a case of sexual harassment and kidnap booked against the administrative officer of the Mutt has come to light.

According to the FIR copy available with www.mysoorunews.com, a 26-year-old woman has filed the complaint at Chitradurga rural police station, naming not just herself as the victim but two other girl students.

The woman is a co-accused booked in the POCSO case against the seer.

Acting on the complaint booked on Friday, police have filed the FIR against K S Basavarajan the Administrative Officer and Secretary of SJM Vidyapeeth and his wife Sowbhagya Basavarajan.

According to the FIR, recently on July 27, the prime accused had summoned the complainant to the hostel at around 6 PM. He allegedly groped her and restrained from going outside, besides touching her body and trying to sexually assault her. When the complainant resisted, the accused, by the virtue of being a former MLA and administrative officer of the Mutt and secretary of Vidyapeeth promised a plum post, if she cooperated with him.

The accused also issued a life threat if she disclosed the incident to anybody. The complainant, fearing her future, kept the matter to herself.

Now, Basavarajan has been relieved on the charges of misbehaviour and other complaints from the responsibilities of the Mutt.

The girls in question were instigated against the seer with the ulterior motive of defaming the Mutt.

Citing personal reasons, the girls had gone out of the Mutt after seeking gate pass from the warden on July 24. The seer was on foreign tour at that time.

The girls were later found in Cottonpet Police Station in Bengaluru. After learning about their whereabouts, the police had intimated the Mutt authorities including Basavarajan and Assistant Manager Ravi to take them back, at around 00.30 hours. As it was too late, the complainant along with Ravi reached Bengaluru following day at 8 AM.

However, Basavarajan and his wife who went to Bengaluru at around 5.30 AM, brought the girls and took them to their home in the town here. All efforts made by the complainant to take them back to hostel had turned futile.

After taking the girls home, Basavarajan had neither informed the Mutt authorities or their parents. But the girls were in their custody from July 25 to afternoon hours of July 27.

The complainant has also alleged that ‘there were several occasions when Basavarajan was summoning her to hostel only to speak in a vulgar tone. Besides, he was insisting on providing the details and phone numbers of parents of hostel inmates. When she refused, she had to face his wrath in full public glare and in front of the devotees of the Mutt.

The FIR has been filed under IPC sections- 341, 342, 363, 120 (B), 354A, 504, 506 and 34
