No Tipu Jayanti this year: State Government revokes order

Bengaluru: In what will antagonise minorities further, the BJP led State Government has revoked the order of earlier Congress government to celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanti in the State, with immediate effect.
Following a requisition from Virajpet BJP MLA K J Bopaiah that was discussed during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday, it was decided to annul the order made in the year 2016, with immediate effect.
Bopaiah has claimed in his requisition that ‘Following Tipu Jayanti an eerie atmosphere prevails in Kodagu district. It is also similar kind of situation in the State too, where a section of the people are opposed to it’.
In Kodagu, animosity prevails among the people and there are incidences of damages to private properties. Hence the government should stop celebrating Tipu Jayanti.
