No need of BPL or APL cards, just Shakti Smart card would do to travel free: Minister Reddy

Bengaluru: Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated that there will be no restrictions on women travellers to have BPL or APL cards to travel free in government-run buses. Instead, they must produce Shakti Smart Cards to travel anywhere in the State.
Speaking after launching the programme in Vidhana Soudha, Minister Reddy said that one need not pay to get the smart card and smart cards can be obtained in three months.
Countering the BJP for its criticism, Reddy said that it has been 20 days since the party has come to power and within such a short span of time, the government has implemented its promise. The BJP made around 600 promises but implemented only 60. “This clearly shows which government walks the talk,” he reacted. He further said that the scheme will be in place for five years not one year as is being claimed by the BJP government. If the Congress comes to power again, it will be there for the next 10 years, he added.
He further said that he has instructed the KSRTC divisions to ensure safety of women passengers. “During my term as transport minister earlier, the KSRTC had won 203 awards while in BJP’s time, the corporation won only 50 awards. We will give account of women travellers and other details. This is a means to empower women,” he added.
