2 min read

Udupi: Even as BJP leaders are staging a protest against placing of mobile phones in a private college’s restroom in Udupi allegedly by students of one community and condemning government’s inaction, National Commission for Women member and actor Khushboo categorically told media that there was no truth in the rumour that there were hidden cameras in toilets of the college.

Addressing the waiting media – after holding five-hour meeting with the college authorities – here on Thursday, Khushboo said that “There are rumours that there were hidden cameras in toilets. There is no truth in it. False videos are going around. It is an institution so there can’t be any hidden cameras.”

When reporters asked about what transpired in the meeting, Khushboo said that the investigation has just begun so she will not let all the information out.

“There are accusations, rumours. But investigation cannot happen like that it needs evidence. Moreover, one cannot come to conclusion over just accusations,” she said.

“It is not breaking news to tell you all. There are students involved, women’s dignity is involved. It is not noodles to be ready in two minutes. We have to gather evidence and investigate. It takes time,” she said.

She appealed to people not to believe any rumours, WhatsApp messages that are being circulated in the media.

She further said that the mobile phones have been sent for forensic science department and it will take time.

“Please do not follow us. Let us do our job,” she shot back at mediapersons.

The Nethra Jyothi Nursing college in Udupi is in the eye of storm after it was alleged that three girls from a community had allegedly placed mobile phones in washroom to shoot pictures of girls from another community. As the issue is making headlines, the BJP is accusing the Congress government for not doing anything for the victims.
