No CM yet: Congress high command caught between ‘son’ and ‘adopted son’

Bengaluru: With the deadlock over chief minister for Karnataka continues in the Congress party, the party high command is faced with a new dilemma now to choose between the ‘son’ and ‘adopted son’. While it is no brainer to understand who the son and the adopted son is between the chief minister aspirants – D K Shivakumar and Siddaramaih.

Supporters of KPC president D K Shivakumar are claiming that since Shivakumar is the ‘son’ of the party and has stood with the party whenever it was crisis, should be made the chief minister. They claim that Siddaramaiah being an ‘outsider’ has once been appointed as the chief minister. Siddaramaiah joined the party after his long stint with JDS

While Siddaramaiah enjoys a good support from legislators and is an experienced hand has already declared that it is his last election. However, Sivakumar is regarded as the party’s trouble-shooter. He is also credited with bringing the party back to the power in Karnataka.

A series of marathon meetings are being held in Delhi since Monday but there is no consensus yet on the issue.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the party high command met both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah and tried to convince them but in vain. It is said that AICC president Mallikarjun Kharg will hold yet another round of talks with both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar on Wednesday and they may finalise by evening.

Even after putting up a united front to defeat BJP in the just-concluded Karnataka Assembly elections in Karnataka, surprisingly there is no unity yet in the party to decide on the chief minister. The dilemma to decide on the chief minister is still contiunuing even after the results were announced on May 13. The Congress has won 135 seats in the 24-Assembly seats in Karnataka.
