Nine killed as milk tanker rams TT in Hassan district

Hassan: In an early morning accident a tempo traveller carrying home the devotees from Dharmasthala met with an accident killing nine on the spot on Sunday.

The deceased are identified as Leelavathi (50), Chaitra (33), Doddaiah (60), Bharati (50), two-year-old Dhruva, Samarth (10), Tanmayi (10), Deepti (12) and Vandana ( 20).

The critically injured two are admitted at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) hospital. 

The accident occurred near Hallikere village in Banavara hobli, Arsikere taluk.

About 14 were travelling in the Ill fated tempo traveller when the tragedy struck. They all had gone to Dharmasthala and were returning home, when death lurked at them closer home.

The reckless driving of the driver of milk tanker is being blamed for the accident as the vehicle came in opposite direction violating one way traffic on the four lane road.

The TT driver who noticed the tanker turned the steering towards his left, ramming a KSRTC bus moving alongside, while the tanker hit the TT.
