Nine killed as cruiser carrying wedding party hits tree near Dharwad

Dharwad: Nine of a same family were killed after a cruiser they were travelling in allegedly rammed a tree on Mansur road near Nigadi in Dharwad on Friday night.
While seven died on the spot, two succumbed to the injuries at the hospital later.
The vehicle carrying marriage party of 21 people was on its way to Benkankatti, after attending the ceremony,.when the tragedy struck, resulting in a pall of gloom at the house of bridegroom wiping the joy of the ceremony.
The deceased are from Benkankatti village. While five others injured in the accident are admitted to KIMS in Hubballi, according to sources.
Police sources said “the driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering and hit the vehicle a tree before turning turtle”.
Overloading is also said to the reason for more number of deaths.
Doctors said the injured are being treated and recovering.
A case has been registered and investigation is on.
