New Delhi: Nikhil Kumaraswamy, the Karnataka president of JD(S) Youth Wing, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, he said, “I met Union Minister Amit Shah at his office in the Parliament House at 12 noon. I shared details about the Channapatna by-election results with him. He encouraged me to work harder and praised my efforts.”
He added, “We also discussed the upcoming zilla and taluk panchayat elections. Amit Shah guided me on strengthening the NDA alliance at the grassroots level.”
Earlier, Nikhil had met BJP National General Secretary B L Santhosh and Karnataka BJP in-charge Dr Radhamohan Das Agarwal. “They suggested that all leaders should contribute more to the organisation,” said Nikhil.
He further criticised the state government, saying, “The Karnataka government is not providing people-friendly governance. The people are facing many difficulties, and the leaders have instructed us to organise collective protests against the government.”
Yogeshwar’s comments on Deve Gowda are unbecoming of an MLA
Responding to C P Yogeshwar’s remarks about Deve Gowda, Nikhil said, “It is inappropriate to make such derogatory comments about someone who has worked for the people for 60 years. An MLA should speak in a way that upholds the dignity of their position.”
He added, “I have humbly accepted defeat. Deve Gowda has continuously fought for land and water issues. Even now, he participates in parliamentary sessions with discipline, setting an example for young MPs. He remains in politics to serve the people and will continue to do so.”
Nikhil also revealed, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself called Deve Gowda and asked him not to retire from politics. Modi requested him to stay in the Rajya Sabha and continue guiding the country. Following Modi’s appeal, Deve Gowda remains active in politics.”
There’s no need to respond to Hassan rally
Commenting on Congress leaders’ criticisms of the Deve Gowda family at a rally held recently in Hassan, Nikhil said, “They used taxpayers’ money to hold a rally and criticise the Deve Gowda family. I don’t think it is necessary to respond or retaliate with another rally.”
He added, “Our leaders had planned to celebrate Kumaraswamy’s birthday grandly in Mandya. However, due to the All India Kannada Literary meet, the ongoing legislative and parliamentary sessions, and prior commitments of central ministers, Kumaraswamy himself suggested canceling the celebrations.”
Regarding the party presidency, I am a loyal worker
“I am a disciplined soldier of the party. The JD(S) exists because of its values, not because of me. I am aware of my limitations. I am a loyal worker of the party and strive to empower grassroots workers. I work alongside them and follow the guidance of senior leaders,” said Nikhil.
We achieved results despite challenges in the election
Reflecting on the by-election results, Nikhil said, “I did not expect such results. There are many reasons for the defeat. In the last 48 hours before the election, the government deposited two months’ worth of Gruhalakshmi scheme funds into women’s accounts. This is a blatant misuse of power, and it must be questioned.”
“I am not looking to blame anyone for the loss. In politics, unexpected decisions are sometimes necessary. Due to the dynamics between the two alliance parties, I had to contest in the final stages of the election campaign. Kumaraswamy decided to avoid any controversy affecting the alliance, and as per the leaders’ instructions, I contested.
“While we only had 15 days to campaign, our opponents had ample time. Our candidate selection was delayed, yet we achieved significant results despite not securing victory,” he explained.
Deve Gowda has contributed immensely to a community
Nikhil highlighted, “Deve Gowda has given a lot to one community. Yet, they did not support us this time. In Nagamangala, during a communal clash, Kumaraswamy provided relief to affected shop owners and the Muslim community.
“In Channapatna’s history, Rs 1,200 crore has been allocated for development work. Despite this, we lost. It is a lesson for us,” he said.
