New reservation formula will push Muslims backward, further: Congress leaders

1 min read

Mysuru: Condemning the State BJP government’s move over new reservation policy that stripped 4 per cent reservation quota of Muslims, Congress leaders staged a protest in front of Dr B R Ambedkar’s statue, at Town Hall here on Sunday.

The protest ‘Save Indian Constitution’ was led by former chief minister and Opposition leader in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, former minister Dr H C Mahadevappa and other leaders of this region.

Addressing protesters, Siddaramaiah questioned how this new reservation policy would work. He complained that the BJP government violated Constitutional provisions that required it to debate in the Assembly before making such a decision, blindly.

He stated that the new reservation policy will push Muslim communities backward and deprive them of their rights under the Constitution.

He also pointed out the technical loopholes in the policy and questioned the BJP government’s motive to go ahead without tabling it in the Assembly session.

The protesting leaders held various placards condemning the decision over reservation taken by the BJP government.

MLAs Tanveer Sait and Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, former MLA A R Krishnamurthy, former Mayor R Purushottam, former ZP member and K R Nagar Congress candidate D Ravishankar, Mysuru District Congress Rural Committee President Dr  B J Vijaykumar, Congress leader Dairy Ravishankar and others participated in the protest.
