Nayaka Sangha demands increase in reservation

Mysuru: Members of K R Nagar Taluk Nayaka Sangha has staged a protest demanding increase in the reservation from present 3.5% to 7%.

The rally was taken out from Valmiki Community Hall to taluk office in K R Nagar. Sangha president Narasimha Nayak submitted a memorandum to Deputy Tahsildar Yadu Girish and urged him to apprise the government.

According to 2011 population census there were 4.5 lakh people belonging to the community then and 3.5% reservation was given to them. Now, there is an increase in the population of the community from the last eight years. Accordingly the percentage of reservation should be increased.

The protesters also demanded for setting up a separate ministry for scheduled tribe ( ST). Most of the people belonging to developed communities are also availing the benefits as STs at the cost of genuine beneficiaries. It has deprived academic and political benefits to deserving candidates. The authorities should be cautious while issuing caste certificates.

Sangha secretary Paramesh, treasurer Mahadeva Nayak, office- bearers Krishna Nayak, Nagaraja Nayak, A T Shivanna, Chikka Nayak, Somanna, Krishna Nayak, Mahadev, Mohan Kumar and Bora Nayak were present.
