National Sports Day! Andolana reporter Dinesh among six selected for honour

Mysuru: Andolana Kannada daily correspondent C Dinesh and five sports achievers will be felicitated during the birth anniversary celebration of Hockey legend Major Dhyanchand Birth on August 29.

The birth anniversary of Dhyanchand is celebrated as National Sports Day every year across the country.

District administration in association with Zilla Panchayath and Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and National Sports Day Celebration Committee were organising district and national level hockey and other games as part of the event. However, in the wake of Covid-19, district administration, ZP, department of youth empowerment and sports and Hockey VSD Mysuru are jointly celebrating the birth anniversary in a simple manner at Chamundi Vihar Indoor stadium.

District Minister S T Somashekar will offer floral tributes to the portrait of Dhyanchand and will felicitate six achievers.
 
Dinesh’s passion for sports reporting has been considered for the honour. He was previously working as a special sports correspondent for Star Sports Kannada in Mumbai. He has covered many cricket matches, tennis, athletics and indoor games also during his stint in Mumbai.
 
International tennis player R Nagaraj, table tennis player K V Krishnamurthy, hockey player and coach M D Muthappa, Dr  Pulakeshi Y Shettappanavar who is the deputy director of sports at University of Mysore and former athletics coach at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Benaka Prasad are the other achievers considered for the honour.
