Mysuru: The Nanjangud Srikanteshwara Temple’s hundi collection has touched Rs 1.77 cr including 64 foreign currency notes.

On Wednesday, counting of hundi collection began amidst police security at Dasoha Bhavan of the temple. Temple Authorities along with Dhyan Foundation and over 100 women self-help group members along with Canara Bank staff opened 34 Hundi of the temple and counted the offerings that varied from cash to gold and silver articles to foreign currencies. Apart from cash, the temple authorities have also found 65 gm of gold, 3.5 kg of silver besides 64 foreign currency notes offered to the temple.

With the Shakti scheme allowing women to travel for free in State-run buses, the majority of the pilgrim centres are witnessing heavy rush. This could be one of the reasons that has helped the temple collect more revenue in the last few days. Srikanteshwara temple in Nanjangud taluk is one of the oldest temples in Mysuru district located on the banks of River Kapila.

Temple Executive officer Jagadish Kumar, sub registrar office Tahsildar Raju, Muzrai Tahsildar Vidyullatha and others were present.
