Mysuru: “The erstwhile Maharaja of Mysuru Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was the visionary king and his vision was not limited for only the fields of education, health, arts and culture, but also had a foresight on industries (science) and technologies for the prosperous development. Therefore Nalwadi will remain alive in the heart of the people permanently,” said Seer Sri Nirmalananda Swamiji of Adhichunchanagiri Mutt on Wednesday.
The seer spoke during the prestigious Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Award presentation ceremony at Mysuru palace.
As many as 12 achievers from various fields were conferred the award.
Nirmalananda Swamiji recalled the historical moments related to Swami Vivekananda, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar and his father (Maharaja Chamaraja, Wadiyar X).
Swamiji said “Swami Vivekananda was roaming in Mysuru, when the Wadiyar helped Vivekananda. Wadiyar was one of the reasons behind Vivekananda going to Chicago (America).”
Nalwadi encouraged science and technology. Therefore the Maharaja built many industries during his reign, Nirmalananda Swamiji added.
Prof Krishnegowda regretted for ignoring Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and his contributions. Though the Maharajas built the state with a far-sighted vision, the governments ignored them.
Any city in the world can have single icon,  but Mysuru has more than 18 icons for its rich culture and way of life that was promoted by Wadiyars. Unfortunately the governments aren’t remembering them in a respectful manner. However, the incumbent  district Minister S T Somashekhar has organised such a programme in Wadiyar’s name, he said.
The award was conferred on Dr G S Jayadeva (education), Echanooru Kumar (History and Archeology), Dr Sukanya Prabhakar (Music), Amshi Prasanna (Journalism), Hanasoge Somashekhar (literature), Jeenahalli Siddalingappa, Kiragasuru Rajappa (theatre) Gururaj (folk), Arun Yogiraj (sculpture) and Rajendra (Arivu School).
District incharge Minister S T Somashekhar, MP Prathap Simha, MlA SA Ramadas, DC Dr Bagadi Gowtham, MUDA Chairman H V Rajiv, Jungle Lodges and Resorts Chairman Appanna, Mylac Chairman H V Phaneesh were present.
