Nagarahole tribal rights activist M B Prabhu dies of Covid-19

Mysuru: M B Prabhu, a tribal rights activist passed away at the age of 56 due to Covid-19 on Friday.

A post- graduate in MSW from Karnatak University Dharwad (KUD), Prabhu was in the forefront of the tribals struggle for three decades at Nagarahole forest.
Prabhu as an youngster struggled for the cause of Nagarahole tribals and succeeded in rehabilitating them, till he fell ill in the recent years. Nearly 200 tribals were rehabilitated and provided with five acres of land as part of the government initiative. They also came to the mainstream of the society.
It was not a rosy path indeed as Prabhu had to endure difficulties. He had to face several legal battles and was also jailed for sometime.
Prabhu married a tribal woman and ensure that all his three daughters were educated with highest degrees.
Prof Dr Muzaffar Assadi of the department of studies in Political Science, University of Mysore told Mysoorunews.com “Prabhu is synonymous in the history of Nagarahole tribals. Though a non-tribal person, he worked for their inclusive efforts with a just cause to uplift them.”
He had tribal consciousness and dedicated himself towards the cause of tribals and thier rehabilitation. Nagapura settlement is really a noble step in this regard. Without any political backup and economic backup, Prabhu effectively fought for Nagarahole tribals, added Assadi.
