Mysuru to adopt UP model? Mayor’s delegation visits Varanasi

Mysuru: A delegation of Corporators from Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) led by Mayor Shivakumar and Deputy Mayor Roopa Yogesh visited Varanasi City Corporation in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

The delegation is on a study tour especially into the conservation of heritage buildings, waste management and other best practices that can be adopted in Mysuru.

MCC Health Officer Dr D G Nagaraj who is also a part of the delegation explained to the Corporators in Kannada about how Varanasi city Corporation has succeeded in procuring power by handing over the waste generated to the power corporation for free. Besides, they are generating charcoal from waste and giving to power transmission corporation with whom they have an agreement. The legacy waste has been reduced to zero unlike Mysuru where four to five lakh tonnes of waste remains to be cleared. 

The delegation was welcomed by Varanasi City Corporation Commissioner Dushyanth Kumar Maurya, Health Officer N P Singh, Municipal Additional Commissioner Sumith Kumar and Chief Engineer Moinuddin and other officials.

The delegation includes Corporators irrespective of ruling BJP, main opposition party JDS and Congress.
