Mysuru sets an example in fighting Coronavirus to nation: Minister Sudhakar

Bengaluru: Mysuru district which was in Red Zone is free from the deadly Corona virus and is a model in itself to the whole nation, observed Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

Despite the fact that there were 90 Covid-19 positive cases in Mysuru, the district has not registered a single case of mortality due to the virus brings hope to whole nation that is grappled with the deadly virus, Minister said.
He lauded the district administration’s efforts and co-operation from the people coupled with the government’s effective measures helped in pushing the district from Red Zone to Green Zone.
He also appreciated Somanna, who is a former district incharge minister and S T Somashekhar, current minister incharge for district for effective management in containing the spread of the virus.
The first Covid-19 case was reported on March 21. In the coming days, the number of positive cases in Jubilant Generics Limited, Nanjangud caused worry. For, 74 persons had contracted the virus from one employee. Apart from this there were 10 positive cases who had a link to the Delhi event, three had returned from aborad and the other othree who were suffering from other illness had contracted the virus. There were fears that the situation would go out of control. But it was managed well, Sudhakar said.
On April 21, Sudhakar said, he personally visited Jubilant factory and Nanjangud town and instructed officials to initiate measures. On the same day, held a review meeting with Minister Somashekhar where it was discussed the measures to be taken, treatment being provided for patients and a detailed plan on how officials were working to contain the spread of the virus. He also visited the place where a Asha worker was attacked and met her family members.
On effective measures, Sudhakar said that primary and secondary contacts of the infected persons were isolated and were asked to undergo test in order to break the chain of the virus.
As many as 5332 persons were quarantined and of them majority have completed the quarantine period. Still, 568 people are under quarantine.
Apart from this, Mysuru City and Nanjangud town were completely sealed down restricting people’s movement. People have been highly co-operative with the goverment, he recalled.
He thanked the efforts of District Health Department, Revenue, police and other department personnel too did a commendable job in fighting the deadly virus.
“Mysuru is a great example to the whole nation that if government guidelines are strictly followed with the support from the people, it is possible to fight the Corona virus. I thank the district administration and elected representatives for this,” Sudhakar said in a release.
