Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah on Wednesday alleged that “BJP uses Hindutva plank as a vote bank and for politics. But it lacks respect towards Hindu religion in reality.”
Speaking to media on the sidelines of Assembly session at Vidhana Soudha, Siddaramaiah was referring to the recent developments over the demolition of temples across the state, especially Adishakti Mahadevamma temple at Huchgani in Nanjangud, on the back of Supreme Court directions and the ruling BJP leaders stand over the drive.
“The chief secretary cannot direct to remove the temple without bringing it to the notice of the government. The deputy commissioners and tahsildars are removing the religious structures in public places on the basis of SC order.”
As the people started opposing, the government is changing its colours to save the face. Now, they are promising to issue directions to stop the drive. Was the temple (in Nanjangud) brought down without the notice of the government. Mysuru MP is opening mouth only after the temple was razed. Instead, the MP could have stopped the demolition by bringing to the government’s notice.
Launching a tirade against BJP, Siddaramaiah alleged that “Hindu temples will be destroyed by BJP only. They are misleading people in the name of Ram and Ram Mandir. The alternative arrangements could have been made after bringing it to the notice of devotees. The unilateral action of razing the temple shows double-standards of BJP.”
The Supreme Court order came long ago. What was the government doing all these days? It’s already two and a half years for BJP government in the State. Now, they are playing a drama of discussing in the cabinet. It shows their double-standards, alleged Siddaramaiah.
“We won’t do politics in the name of religion. We won’t indulge in any operations and force anybody to switch sides. Whoever comes to the party after accepting our principles and remain loyal will be welcomed into the party fold,” said Siddaramaiah.
