2 min read

Mysuru: Mysuru Mega Blood Donation Camp organised on Sunday set a new record. Over 330 units of blood were collected, highest ever units of blood collected in less than six hours in the last six months.

A joint initiative of Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, Rotary Mysore, RGS Mysuru and Human Touch organisation, it was simultaneously held in seven different places in the city.

People aged between 25 years and 45 years  donated blood. Most of them were first time donors.

Around 400 people had registered for donation, while 330 plus units were collected in the drive held between 8-30 AM and 2 PM.

A week back Mysuru had witnessed a shortage of O+ve blood, that acted as a spur for the organisers to take up the cause.

Rotary Mysore’s volunteer Ravishankar told Mysoorunews.com “the plan was in the making for 15 days and the response we received from hospitals and public was good. We preferred to organise the camps at Convention Halls as people hesitate to visit hospital. Even public representatives  cooperated.”

Around 10 per cent had to return dissappointed as they couldn’t meet the health parameters to donate blood. The afternoon rain also came in the way of few and also some of them had already vaccinated against Covid-19.

The camp was held at following venues-Therapanth Bhavan, M G road, Madhav Shenoy kalayan mantap, opposite Maharshi school, Kanika Mahal, Ashoka road, Kodava Samaj, Vijayanagar, Bhramarambha Kalyan Mantap, Srirampura, Jayamma Govinde Gowda Kalyan Mantap, Kuvempunagar and Venkatalingaiah Kalyan Mantap, Opposite milk dairy.
