Mysuru lad Shamith cracks defence academy exams with all India 39th rank

Mysuru: A teenager from Mysuru has made the City of Palaces proud, by landing a slot in National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla in Pune, Maharashtra.

Shamith T, aged 18, has cleared the entrance exams of National Defiance Academy (NDA) by securing all India 39th rank. Now, he has joined NDA for BTech on April 6, as he is aspiring to make a career as an aeronautical researcher.

Shamith is the only son of Tilak H and Shylaja couple residents of Mysuru. Tilak is the commercial manager at J K Tyres and Shylaja a government school teacher at Madralli in Nanjangud taluk in the district.

Shamith was pursuing BE in computer science at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), when he cracked the exams to the Academy held in September 2020.

Shamith completed his schooling at JSS Public School and later joined Base PUĀ  College and cleared a number of National level entrance exams for professional courses like Indian Institute of Technology and National Institute of Information Technology and Baba Atomic Research

Shamith during his Pre University education was inspired by NDA and decided to enter the academy. Since childhood he was good both in education and sports, especially basketball, shuttle badminton and table tennis being his favourites. His father is also a sports person that helped Shamith acquire innate abilities.

Shamith’s father Tilak H told Mysoorunews.com ” As my son was smart in learning, we suggested him to aim for national level entrance exams for higher education. He did it and we are proud of him.”

Earlier he had got a seat at NIIT and had also cleared the IIT JEE advance. He finally decided to join NDA for BTech. After completing the course, he will later join Aeronautical Research Center at Hyderabad and join Indian Air force or DRDO. He is keen on working on pilots safety and battle crafts innovation, Tilak says recalling his son’s areas of interest.

Since few days hundreds of friends and relatives wished him and also joined the family in sending off him to NDA.

NDA is the one of its kind joint defence training institute of the Indian armed forces. Every year an estimated 4.5 lakh candidates appear for the written test conducted by union public service commission (UPSC) and about 6,300 will be selected for the interview and about 380 will be selected in the final round. The minimum age for qualification is 16.5 years and maximum 19.5 years.
