Mysuru: With the State government shifting the venue to launch Gruha Lakshmi scheme from Belagavi to Mysuru, the Heritage City is all gearing up for the grand launch on August 30.
The strategy behind the shift is directly linked to the upcoming Parliament elections. It appears that the Congress is targeting the Old Mysore region after its triumphant win in the Assembly elections.
Earlier, it was decided to launch the programme in Belagavi, the home turf of Woman and Child Welfare Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar. However, the Congress government has decided to launch the scheme in Mysuru, the home district of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme is one of the five guarantees of the Congress government where women head of the families will get a financial assistance of Rs 2,000 every month. This, the Congress leaders claim, will empower women economically.
On Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Dr KV Rajendra along with City Police Commissioner Ramesh B inspected the preparations at Maharaja’s College grounds.
There are around 1.5 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme in Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts and they are expected to take part in the event, said DC Dr Rajendra.
