Mysuru: The City’s young cricketing talent, L Manvanth Kumar, has secured a spot in the Delhi Capitals squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The 20-year-old who was grabbed for a base price of Rs 30 lakh, at the ongoing auction at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, had gained attention for his stellar performances in the recent Maharaja Trophy and the C K Nayudu Trophy.

Manvanth, known for utilising his height to extract bounce and deliver sharp variations as a death-over specialist, is also a capable lower-order batter, renowned for his ability to hit big shots when needed.

Though details about his early life and family are sparse, it is known that Manvanth began his cricketing journey as an opening batter at the U-14 and U-16 levels. He transitioned into bowling in 2022 and has since established himself as a versatile all-rounder. Manvanth credits his father Lakshmikumar and brother L Hemanth Kumar for supporting his cricketing ambitions.

His breakthrough moment came during the 2023 Maharaja Trophy, where he played a crucial role in helping the Hubli Tigers clinch the title. His standout performance against Odisha, where he achieved a remarkable six-wicket haul and scored a century in the same innings, further cemented his reputation as a rising star.

As Manvanth Kumar gears up for his debut IPL season, cricket enthusiasts in Mysuru and beyond will be keen to see how he contributes to the Delhi Capitals’ campaign.
