Mysuru Bandh: City comes to a standstill

1 min read

Mysuru: The city witnessed a complete shutdown as Dalit organisations and progressive groups took out a protest march on account of Mysuru Bandh.

Fuel stations, shops and major commercial hubs remained closed in response to the bandh, called by Mysuru Dalit organizations and the Mysuru City and District Congress Committee.

The bandh was organised to demand the resignation of Union Home Minister Smith Shah over his alleged remarks about Dr B R Ambedkar in Parliament.

Protesters, waving blue flags and chanting “Jai Bheem,” marched through the city, urging public support for the bandh. Hotels also joined in, with many hoteliers expressing moral support by keeping their establishments closed. Most of the eateries remained shut, adding to the overall impact.

The agitation intensified as protestors burnt the effigy of Amit Shah and took out a mock funeral procession, near the office of Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, located on the CADA office premises.

Tourist destinations saw a significant drop in footfalls, while public transportation was severely affected. Most buses were halted, leaving auto services as the only mode of transport. Two-wheeler and four-wheeler commuters, unable to find alternative options, were forced to turn back after encountering “No Service” boards across the city. Schools and colleges that resumed as usual, later declared holiday at about 10.30 am.
