Murder for dowry! In- laws found guilty, father-in-law gets lifer

Mandya: Judge of Second Additional District and Sessions Court J P Archana has found a couple guilty of murdering their daughter- in- law for dowry.

Devegowda and Jayamma couple of Boothana Hosur are those couple, who have been sentenced to imprisonment. Devegowda is sentenced to life imprisonment, along with seven years imprisonment for dowry and two years each for conviction under other charges and additional six months imprisonment, that will run concurrently. He is imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.

Jayamma has been sentenced to nine years and six months imprisonment.

Nethravathi had married Siddaraju son of Devegowda and Jayamma on February 22, 2010. Following the marriage, Netravathi was subjected to dowry harassment. On July 20, 2011, Siddaraju and his parents murdered Netravathi and carried her body in a gunny bag and disposed it in a tank. Following the complaint, police had recovered the body. A charge sheet against the accused had been submitted to the court.

Siddaraju had passed away during the course of trial.

Public prosecutors S G Peerzad, V S Bhat, S T Sudha and V M Angadi had argued on behalf of the prosecution.
