Mysuru: Former Chairman of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce Sudhakar Shetty has appealed to Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha to extend flight services from Mysuru to Shivamogga and Mangaluru.
In a letter addressed to the MP, Shetty, founding president of Jnana Sarovara International Residential School, said that there are around 15,000 families from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts and also about 2,000 families from Shivamogga and Chikmagaluru districts settled in Mysuru. Providing air travel between Mysuru and Shivamogga will connect these families with their roots, he observed.
Earlier, there was a daily flight service from Mysuru to Mangaluru. But the service has been suspended now allegedly due to lack of passengers. The service has been on-and-off for the last 12 years hence, people here have not taken the air service seriously, Shetty reasoned.
Now that Shivamogga airport has become functional, he urged MP Pratap Simha to take initiative to facilitate air travel between Mysuru, Shivamogga and Mangaluru as this will boost tourism and trade in the respective regions.
