MP, MLA recommend Padma Shree for ‘Body Miyan’, the kin of unclaimed bodies in Mysuru

Mysuru: Mysuru- Kodagu MP Prathap Simha and NR MLA Tanveer Sait have written to the authorities at the Centre recommending Padma Shree Award for Dr Ayub Ahmed popularly known as ‘Body Miyan’ in the city, for the year 2022.

While Simha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

It has been explained that Ayub Ahmed a resident of N R Mohalla in the city, till date he has performed the last rites of 16,000 unclaimed dead bodies irrespective of caste and creed in the city. He started rendering this yeoman service 23 years ago.

While he has been providing free food to the beggars and poor for the last 20 years. He has opened Maryam Tailoring Institute to coach the needy for free and Janab Basheer Old Age Home for Poor.

All these good deeds brought him a recognition with Harmony Institute of America conferring honorary doctorate on him in the year 2020, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Global Peace Award in 2019 and District Kannada Rajyotsava Award in 2017.

A loader at Mandi Mohalla Market, he transports the bodies in his own car, whenever he gets calls from hospital, police or general public and performs last rites.

During Covid crisis too, Ayub performed last rites of Covid victims too, besides shifting 6000 Covid patients to Hospitals.
